Time

Time heals all wounds or so they say.

So why then does my heart constrict?

So why then do I feel as if icy water is poured upon my heart

Each and every time I am reminded of a long-abandoned home?

Or of a long lost friend?

Time heals all wounds or so they say.

But they are liars! Hypocrites! Imbeciles!

Wounds fade as time passes, yes,

But they never disappear.

They lurk beneath the surface forgotten,

Until a reminder awakens them and the pain is felt anew.

They rage with a new vengeance,

Angry at being forgotten, determined to guilt,

They take your breath away, they make your heart ache

Until time fades their impact once more.

Time heals all wounds?

No, time merely fades them,

Until for an oh-so-brief moment,

We forget.

And then, then the vicious cycle begins once more.
